Cobblers sign Middlesbrough's John Johnson
Northampton Town have signed defender John Johnson from Middlesbrough.
The 21-year-old right back enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sixfields last season, scoring 5 goals in 38 appearances. He has signed a two-year contract with the Cobblers.
"I am delighted we have been able to bring Jonno back to the club," said boss Ian Sampson.
"He was a big success here last season. He knows all about us, we know all about him and he fits the bill of the type of player we are looking to bring in.
"He is young, hungry, determined and ambitious. We know there were a lot of clubs interested in him so as soon as we heard he could be available we moved quickly to bring him to the club."
"He is a good defender and he is a goal threat for us, both at set pieces and in open play.
"I am sure the move here will prove good for him and we are pleased to have made another major signing."
Johnson is set to play some part in Saturday's game with Watford at Sixfields and Sampson hopes there will be a good turn out from the fans to welcome him back.
"We were very pleased with the attendance on Wednesday night and hopefully a number of fans will come to the game on Saturday to give Jonno a big welcome," he said.
