Cobblers boss delighted with strike pairing
Ian Sampson praised strike duo Courtney Herbert and Steve Guinan after the two produced an eye-catching display in last night's pre-season friendly win at Nuneaton Town.
Guinan scored twice to settle the contest at Liberty Way, with both goals before provided after good breaks out wide by Herbert.
Sampson admits both players could force their way into his starting line-up for the first game of the new season, at Torquay United a week on Saturday.
The manager says his selection for that match is not established yet, and the whole squad have a chance to break into his thoughts.
"We tried to do a few different things with a few different players," he said. "And it worked quite well with Courtney (Herbert) going over the top.
"He's got tremendous pace and he showed good awareness to pick out Steve Guinan for two good goals.
"I've got four strikers at this club and they're all in my thoughts at the moment. Nobody has cemented their place in the team yet and there's still time for players to catch my eye.
"Those two definitely did catch my eye in last night's game."
Despite being pleased with the performance of Guinan and Herbert, though, Sampson says there were few other positives to be taken out of last night's game.
"Once we changed a few things around we got a bit sloppy," he said. "I don't think it was a very good team performance overall."
