Cobblers exclusive: Ian Sampson on Adebayo Akinfenwa contract latest

Manager Ian Sampson says he 'doesn't see any reason' why Adebayo Akinfenwa will not be a Cobblers player next season.

The Town boss has told the Chron he has opened talks with the club's leading goalscorer about an extension to his contract, which expires in the summer.

Akinfenwa, the top earner at Sixfields, is likely to be in demand at the end of a campaign during which he has scored 15 goals in 29 starts.

But Sampson is confident he can get him committed to a fresh Northampton deal.

"We're talking to Bayo about a new contract," confirmed Sampson. "I'm talking to his agent this week and hopefully we can get something sorted out.
