Capel: Mission accomplished - part one!
David Capel was an understandably happy man after his side secured their home draw in the quarter-finals of the Twenty20 Cup.
It was a case of part one of the job achieved – and he admitted he already had a sneaky feeling Hampshire were going to be there opponents.
"I did say I thought we would get them," he said. "I'm very pleased with that draw.
"It is a case of mission accomplished – so far. We've done the first bit of what we set out to do.
"All anyone would have wanted from us at this stage would be to make the quarter-finals and have a home draw.
"Hopefully it will be big day, with some good support.
"We haven't had a home quarter-final for a while. But we don't lose many of them and I'm confident we can go on in this competition.
"Now we get a nice little break which is quite welcome. We've got a week until the next Championship game and it will be a chance for a few people to recharge the batteries a little."
Not that everyone will be given the opportunity to rest.
The second team begin a three-day game against Sussex at Hove tomorrow.
And the side will be a strong one including several first-team players – including yesterday's batting hero Stephen Peters.
"There are a few who have not seen any red-ball action for quite a while," Capel added. "Riki Wessels has obviously missed some cricket and he will get a game.
"Steve Peters will also be in there as will people like Alex Wakely and David Wigley."
One person who missed out on yesterday's quarter-final clinching clash was Ian Harvey. The Australian was struggling with a hand injury and pulled out of the game after the warm-up.
Capel explained: "He's got a sore finger but thought he would be alright. But when he was hitting a few balls before the game he said it was getting worse and worse.
"He wasn't confident. It was a very unselfish decision not to play. I'm not expecting any problems with him for the quarter-final, though."
