Kingsthorpe reach the last four of Denny Plate

KINGSTHORPE and Desborough will both fly the county flag in the semi-finals of national competitions.

Kingsthorpe progressed in the Denny Plate, while Desborough are through in the under-25s double-rink.

But Wellingborough were unable to make it a hat-trick in the Denny Cup as the quarter-finals proved a bridge too far.

Kingsthorpe saw off Bannister Park 80-70 at Oxford & District and will now play Copeland in the semi-finals at Falcon in Chelmsford on April 14.

The County ladies return to Midland Counties League action on Saturday when they face Nottinghamshire at Newark (12.30pm start).

Coach pick-up times will be 10am (Northampton & District) and 10.20am (Kettering Leisure Centre).

The County under-25s suffered a narrow 97-92 defeat to Lincolnshire at Wellingborough in the Midland Counties Championship.

NORTHANTS vice-presidents enjoyed an 83-65 friendly win at Kettering Lodge.

Results (skips only, vice-presidents first): Rink one: G Stibbard 26, M Fowell 14. Rink two: K Forbes 17, A Shardlow 15. Rink three: T Coles 23, J Beal 15. Rink four: R Cave 17, P Morgan 21.

The men’s national competitions are at the area semi-final stage.

In the pairs, Callum Height/Jamie Walker (Wellingborough) beat Tony Dicks/Mick Worthington (Daventry) 20-12.

Worthington’s rink also lost in the triples, 25-9, to the rink of Dominic Graham (Northampton).

And in the fours, Neil McKee’s rink (Kingsthorpe) beat Neil Corbyn’s (Wellingborough) 22- 14

The second round of the men’s county competitions saw wins in the singles for Malcolm Paul (Desborough), Richard Bryan (Rushden) and Richard Lemon (Northampton).

In the pairs, Darren Lewis (Kingsthorpe) and Scott Johnson (Wellingborough) are through to round three.

The triples saw wins for the rinks of Mick Worthington (Davetnry), Ross Knox (Desborough), Martin Underwood (Rushden) and Robert Norman (Wellingborough).

In the fours, the rinks of Matt Pownall (Desborough), Mike Arnold, and Tony Burns (both Kingsthorpe), Duggie Mitchell and Dave Flippance (both Daventry) are all through to the third round.

The opening round of the under-25s singles saw wins for Curtis Johnson (Wellingborough) and David Walker (Kingsthorpe).

In the Youth Development Scheme singles, there were first-round wins in the under-15s for Alice Moore and Adam Paige (both Northampton), and in the 15-18yrs section for Liam Baxter and Nick Manton (both Kingsthorpe).
