BOWLS: Northants youngsters reach national semi-finals

Northants Under-25s are celebrating after reaching the semi-finals of the national Inter County Double Rink competition after a six-shot quarter-final win over Norfolk and St Neots & District IBC.

The final score was Northants 38 Norfolk 32 shots, and the County now go on to play Lincolnshire in the last four on March 12.

England date for Walker and Cinato

Kingsthorpe pair Connor Cinato and Jamie Walker will represent England in this weekend’s Men’s British Isles International Series for Under 25s at Newport IBC in south Wales.

Cinato will be playing at No.3 on a rink skipped by regular England International Perry Martin of Swale IBC, Sittingbourne, Kent, and he will have with him Jack Bird of Scarborough IBC, North Yorkshire, at Lead and Jordan Philpott of Spalding IBC, Lincolnshire, at No.2.

Walker will be skipping a rink and have with him Jack Fairhall, Southwick, West Sussex, at Lead, Jamie Barker, St Neots & District IBC, Cambridgeshire, at No.2 and Bradley Coles, Watford IBC, Hertfordshire, at No.3.

Walker also has the honour of captaining England in this Series.

A win and a loss for Northants Women

Northants Women secured an impressive 131-97 win over Bedfordshire in their Midland Counties clash.

The County turned in a splendid performance at Kempton IBC, with no losing rinks.

They picked up 21 points to just one point against for one drawn rink.

The highest scoring rink for the County was that skipped by Joan Watts, which won by 13 shots.

Despite having two winning rinks, Northants lost the match by a huge 82 shots.

The highest winning rink for the County was that skipped by Brenda Bishop which posted a very commendable 16 shots win.

The final score was Northants (4 points) 80 Lincolnshire (18 points) 162.

Northants Men were 88-55 winners in their friendly match with Northants & Hunts Masonic BA at Kettering Lodge.

The County had three winning rinks, suffering one loss, and they won the match by 33 shots

The win was down in no small measure to the massive win by 27 shots by the rink skipped by Richard Somerton.

Kingsthorpe cruise to the top of the pile

Kingsthorpe are top of the Wessex League Midlands Region table after they beat third-placed Rugby & Thornfield 66-65.

The win saw Kingsthorpe claim 12 points while Rugby took four, and the Northampton team are top with 108 points, seven clear of second-placed Church Gresley.
