Boss has little room to move on signings

Rob Dunion admits his hands are tied when it comes to trying to strengthen Rothwell Town's striking options.

The Bones are light up front following the departures of Kevin Byrne and Jon Stevenson and Dunion has little room for manoeuvre when it comes to replacing them.

"Basically, I cannot afford the kind of striker I would like so I have to work within my limits," he said.

"We really need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net because we're on a horrible run right now and we can't score goals.

"But until such time as I can get someone in, if I am able to, I will have to go with what I have and continue to back that up with young lads and hope one of them is able to come through and step up to plate."

The Bones should finally play their first home game in nearly three months tomorrow when they take on Burnham in the Zamaretto League Division One Midlands.

For the home side, it will be a welcome chance to put the nightmare of last Tuesday's 4-0 drubbing at leaders Hitchin Town behind them when a nightmare coach journey that meant the game kicked off almost an hour late, was just the first of several problems.

"It was a very long day but in terms of the football, I didn't think we did too badly," said Dunion.

"I think if they are what it takes to be top of the league then we are not too far behind.

"The issue for us is that we can hold a side for 50-70 minutes with our main first-choice team.

"But then we are having to put kids on to replace tiring legs and while these young lads are talented and willing workers, they are not up to Southern League level yet and unfortunately, that stands out a mile, especially against the more experienced sides.

"But we will keep trying and at least with us being at home tomorrow, it will be a more familiar surrounding for the youngsters we now have in the squad.

"And if we can keep the core 12 of experienced players we have in the squad fit, then there's no reason why we cannot still move up the league and keep an interest going in the play-offs.

Brett Darby (knee) is a doubt for the Bones but Tom Mills should return.

Rothwell from: Crockett, Goodman, Sturgess, Underwood, White, Darby, Mills, Flannigan, Goodall, Turner, Maddox, Bowles, Locklin, Cerelli, Waddy.
