Bones back on road for tough test

Rothwell Town head to high-flying Chasetown in BGB Southern League Division One Midlands tonight for their third straight away game.

And Bones boss Rob Dunion will be hoping his side can compete more against the Scholars after their last two road trips have been something of a nightmare.

Following the eight-goal hammering by Bury Town seven days ago, the Bones conceded another four at promotion contenders Sutton Coldfield Town at the weekend.

Fortunately, with everyone else in the bottom five also losing, nothing has changed in the relegation picture with Rothwell still three points above the bottom two.

Meanwhile fourth-placed Chasetown are comfortably bedded into the play-off zone, 10 points clear of sixth-placed Leighton Town.

But the Scholars, who have had a much quieter time of things this year after their FA Cup exploits last season, will be targeting a top three finish to ensure home advantage in the second leg of those play-offs.

And they are in good form of late with four wins in their last five – including beating leaders Leamington.

But Dunion will take heart from two previous meetings this season when they lost narrowly at home in the league and then took them to extra-time in an FA Cup replay having drawn the first game at Church Street.

"They like to play and that creates a bit of space on the pitch which suits our game a lot more," said Dunion.

"We don't tend to do so well against the big physical sides but as our results against them this season show, Chasetown are a side we tend to play better against.

"We certainly need to find that bit of quality because we lacked that against Sutton Coldfield.

"What is important is that we don't get into a mindset where we go out there thinking we're going to concede in the first 10 minutes and then that's it."

Kevin Byrne should be fit for the Bones after suffering a bruised foot but Danny Pownell has left the club.

Rothwell from: Dorrill, Hackett, White, Flannigan, Maddox, Glass, F Koriya, Boyle-Chong, Medine, Byrne, Goodall, Rodgers, Locklin, McIlwain, Linton.
