Bones want to move on after tough week

Rothwell Town have begun to feel the bite of no home games for over two months after two of their players left this week.

Attacking full-backs and wide men David Glass and Dominic Hallows both quit the Zamaretto League side with financial reasons the main concern.

Bones boss Rob Dunion revealed he also expects one or two more could go before tomorrow's trip to Barton Rovers in Division One Midlands.

The coffers are dry at Cecil Street after having not played a home game since November.

And the situation has started to lead to changes in the playing staff with some players unable to commit to the cause any longer.

However, despite the off-field woes, compounded by their home game with Sutton Coldfield Town on Tuesday night being called off less than an hour before kick-off, Dunion is trying to remain positive.

"It's disappointing but I'm philosophical about things," he said.

"At the start of the season, I had a squad I expected to challenge for the play-offs.

"Now, we will just haver to try and stabilise and see where we end up.

"We can still be in the play-offs with all the games in hand we have but it's a case of what will be now. I have spoken to each one of the players individually and both Dom and David left amicably.

"I think they had just become a bit disillusioned with how things have gone over the last few weeks and I can understand that.

"But it's not like I've been left with only nine players or anything like that.

"We've still got around 15 players and I'll have to beg, steal and borrow from the youth team over the rest of the season."

Given the bleak picture off the pitch, Dunion admits he will be glad to escape to the relative safety of the dugout and tomorrow's game against second-bottom Barton.

"Even with everything that has gone on, I look at this game and, with the players I have at my disposal, I still expect to win it," he said."

Rothwell from: Crockett, Underwood, Sturgess, Maddox, White, Darby, Mills, Flannigan, Goodall, Stevenson, Turner, Cerelli, Locklin, Byrne, Bowles.

The postponed home game with Sutton Coldfield has been re-arranged for Thursday, April 8 (kick-off 7.45pm).
