Bones pay the penalty after dreadful start
Rob Dunion admitted that his Rothwell Town side simply did not have enough quality to take anything from this game against Sutton Coldfield.
The Bones boss said: "There was plenty of fighting and effort but no quality. We lost the game in the first 10 minutes.
"However, it was an improvement from last Tuesday when we were beaten 8-0 by Bury Town. So we have something to go forward with.
"But we didn't do enough to take anything from this game."
The hosts powered ahead after just 24 seconds following a terrific cross from Jimmy Quiggin which was met by a powerful header from Neil Davis – giving new signing Stuart Dorrill in goal no chance.
It took only another eight minutes for Sutton Coldfield to go two in front. Dorrill's clearance held up in the wind and was picked up 35 yards out by Craig Owen who hit the ball back over Dorrill and into the net.
The hosts extended their lead after the break when the assistant awarded a penalty – although the referee had awarded a free-kick to Rothwell. Owen calmly converted for his second goal of the afternoon.
The Bones continued to battle and they pulled a goal back when Carl Locklin netted with his first touch of the game, having replaced the
struggling Shaun Goodall.
But the hosts restored their three-goal advantage through another
dubious penalty, with Owen claiming his hat-trick.
Rothwell face another top-three team tomorrow night when they travel to Chasetown.
They then face fellow-strugglers Barton Rovers on Saturday – a game Dunion's team must win.
