Riding as high as the England rugby squad, home-side Wellingborough have triumphed over the big-name sponsored crews – shouldering them aside to win the Barker league.
And that was on a day when the Foxton to Theddingworth cut fished so rock-hard that just one sixteenth of an ounce separated the top two individuals.
Browning Red’s Alan Robinson won with exactly 4-0-0, followed by Browning Xitan’s Carl Smith on 3-15-15 and home-side Wellingborough’s Pete Laughton on 3-14-1 in the 46 peg match.
Browning Red won on the day, but W’borough’s fourth place was enough to see them increase their overall lead to win the 11 team series on 12 points. Browning Grey had 18 with Xitan on 21.

IT was a big weekend for Abington AC with more than 100 people attending come-and-try sessions organised by the club, the Angling Trust and the EA. At the same time professional netsmen transfered fish – including 5lb bream and perch to 3lb – from the bottom pond to the main lake.
