Steel City Champion! That’s grand old man Geoff Ringer...and the only weights he had to lift were shed loads of bream.

And his catch, in the two-day Steel City Autumn Classic on Ferry Meadows lakes, totalled a mind-blowing 202-6 – all slabs from 3lb up to 8lb-plus!

“It was the best all-bream match-catch I’ve ever had,” said town’s veteran match ace.

“They just kept coming. It really was fabulous fishing, especially for the time of year, even better than Irish style.”

He netted 31 fish for 148-5 on Saturday – almost enough to win the cup in one hit – and added 64-1 on Sunday to beat runner-up Dave Lawrence by close to 50lb overall.

And his Ringer ‘juniors’ Steve and Phil made third and fifth with 110lb and 88lb as, between them, the family squad went home more than two-grand better off.

GILDERS latest ‘works outing’ saw five rods share 15 Trent barbel (best 11-15 to Dan Todd) 15 chub to 5-4 and two good bream.

LURE Anglers Society’s Pitsford boat match saw Ian
