Although he stopped short of admitting as much, last night's stunning 2-1 Carling Cup win at Premier League Bolton Wanderers is undoubtedly Cobblers boss Stuart Gray's greatest achievement as Cobblers manager.
He said: "People all over the country will see this result and think maybe we've rode our luck. We dominated the game.

"We came up this morning and saw the stadium and I said to the players 'you've got to have memories from your careers'.

"They can look back over their careers on what they did at Bolton on this night and be very proud of themselves.

"It's the most satisfying result I've had here.

To play the way we have against a Premier League side is very pleasing."

Defender Mark Hughes enjoyed a great game at the heart of the defence, and felt it was the best night of his fledgling career.

"It's definitely the best game of my career and a big highlight," said the former Everton man.

"We came here and we got a win which we really deserved. We had so many chances, we could have even won by more.

"Everyone in the team has been absolutely superb. The starting 11 and the players who have come on – you can't knock any of them.

"Towards the end I think we were playing with 10 at the back and even when they did get in behind us Bunny just stopped them.

It was just a great team performance."

And he added: "It doesn't surprise any of us to see Bunny making saves like the ones he made in this game because we see him do it every day in training.

"The save from Helguson was brilliant because it came through about 10 bodies and he must have seen it late.

"I don't even know what to say about that save.

It was just unbelievable.

"You know when you come to somewhere like this that your goalkeeper is going to have to make saves and he was faultless for us."

Midfielder Andy Holt, who predicted a good night for the Cobblers, maintained it was a night he would never forget.

"I've played in a few teams that have got some big results and these and the games you always remember," he said.

"I actually said before the game that I really fancied our chances and I thought we thoroughly deserved to win.

"The last time I was in Bolton was for Oldham's reserves and we won that game 2-1 as well so I'm delighted we've repeated that.

"All of the boys played magnificently, we defended really well, and I thought we could have got another goal, maybe another two goals, who knows?"
