Ex-Cobbler Chris drops into non-League

Former Northampton Town defender Chris Carruthers has signed for non-League Oxford United.
The 24-year-old left-sided defender drops out of the Football League and joins another former Cobbler, Joe Burnell, at Oxford.

The Kettering-born player signed on Sixfields as a trainee in 2000, He spending five years at Sixfields and making 89 appearances.

In June 2005 he transferred to Bristol Rovers, where he made 128 appearances before being released at the end of last season.

"Chris was reluctant to drop down to the BSP but after speaking to Darren and looking around the facilities was impressed enough to turn down offers from League clubs," said an Oxford spokesman.
