Marvin Morgan netted a late winner to compound the Cobblers misery after a refereeing controversy saw them throw away a one-goal lead.
Morgan struck a solo goal to seal the points for Aldershot after his side had levelled the scores from the penalty spot via the boot of Scott Donnelly.

Donnelly netted after referee Fred Graham gave a penalty to the home side for a foul by Paul Ro
dgers. Cobblers keeper Chris Dunn saved the initial spot kick but the official spotted an infringement and Donnelly converted the re-take.

The Cobblers had dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead with Luke Guttridge the man on the score sheet. The talented number four beat the offside trap to slot in after good work from Adebayo Akinfenwa and in truth the away side could have gone in at the break with more than one goal to their name.

Ian Sampson sprang what many may have considered a surprise prior to kick-off as he named Akinfenwa in the starting line-up and the big front man caused Aldershot problems almost immediately.

His link-up work with Guttridge on the right side was really troubling the home side and that combination came to fruition on 17 minutes as Akinfenwa slid the ball through for his teammate to slide the ball in.

The lead was no more than the Cobblers deserved after a bright start but Aldershot began to come back into it and their star man Louis Soares was gifted an effort from the edge of the area but he hit it just wide.

Home hitman Morgan then got in on goal but he shot wildly over from inside the area with just Dunn to beat.

Cobblers sensed that they needed to get a foothold in the game once again and Guttridge was denied by Jaimez-Ruiz after another good pass from Akinfenwa.

Andy Holt also had a chance to double the away advantage but he headed narrowly over with 10 minutes to go before half-time.

Aldershot made a double substitution during the interval and they attempted to exert some pressure early on but their shots were all high wide and not so handsome. Scott Donnelly had the best effort in but his long range effort failed to test Dunn.

The keeper was forced into action on the 66 minute mark, though, as he pulled off a sensational save to deny Halls' 25 yard curling effort.

The Cobblers were struggling to get any sort of possession and their opponents had a succession of corners before referee Graham awarded a highly contentious penalty to the Shots.

Dunn made a brilliant low save from Donnelly's spot kick, which was given for a foul by Rodgers on Anthony Charles, but a re-take was ordered and the midfielder made no mistake at the second attempt.

The Cobblers players were losing their head with the man in black and Ian Sampson was raging on the touchline but in their angst the away side created a chance. Holt cut in from the left and stung the palms of the keeper.

Things were to get worse for Sampson's unlucky side on the 90 minute mark as Shots striker Morgan cut inside from the left and beat Dunn to win the game for the hosts.

Regardless of decisions made in the game and admittedviewing from afar, although i have seen six games this season.I think it is tragic that we cannot beat a team like Aldershot. This time last year we had just beaten Leeds who are storming to the Championship and drawn with Leicester who are knocking on the Premier league door! The club has ben let down grossly by Stuart Gray who seemed neither cared about relegation (letting the slide gain unstoppable momentum) or the future of the club (only sigming loanees), It seems to me he was lining himself up for the sack and subsequent pay off! The way he let players leave without a fight was imho tantamount to criminality. When the nitty gritty of signings was happening last summer this man was either away on holiday or golfing with Dwight Yorke and his celeb mates! Mr Cardoza had the chance to act and didn't. I'm not an huge Sammo fan but a bit like Phil Chard in years gone by he has no chance.

If you read Jefferson Lake's newspaper match report in The Chronic this morning ... you'll see he's given 'star man' status to Chris McCready! No, No, No, Lakey. This would be the same McCready whose horrendous individual error allowed The Shot to pinch a late winner? The same McCready who sunk to his knees in despair in our penalty box, inconsolable, with his head in his hands as the realisation of the 'ricket' he'd just perpetrated on us all swept over him? Now I'm prepared to countenance that the content of Lakey's report may all be down to newsprint deadlines etc... as they try to put the paper to bed and get it printed .... and that he'll give it a more balanced reflection tomorrow ... but don't be mislead today, dear reader!

As to the game ... we should have won it. Never really troubled for most of the game and should have put it away. The Rogers incident was NOT a foul and NOT penalty: it was outside the box, but Rogers shouldn't have allowed the situation to arise anyway: the ball was going nowhere but Rogers got wrong side. The ref was poor, The Shot were poor and so are we.

Obviously my 'early' version of The Chronic contains a slightly different 'Lakey' report to that 'later' version you're seeing Val Smith ... the likelihood of which I alluded to in my original post when I wrote, "I'm prepared to countenance that the content of Lakey's report may all be down to newsprint deadlines etc.. " If you're not aware, match reports for the print media are regularly rewritten/updated and hapless match reporters are oft hung out to dry by print deadlines and subsequent events: goes with the territory.

"I'm disappointed with the officials because I'm trying to make my way in the game and trying to get an extension to what I've already been given as a manager."
This is what Sammo had to say after the game, Great I say we get rid of a lame effort of a manager in Stuart Gray, and we get his understudy who is a cry baby.
Mr Cardoza has made the wrong decision in making him a manager and should have cleared the decks completely and re-started with a fresh face and someone who has balls to tell the pathetic bunch of players we have to their faces that they are overweight, too slow, one footed or in fact totally useless.
This is the worst cobblers team I have ever had the displeasure to watch even worse than the squad Phil Chard was left with after the administrators were called in, and at least those youngsters made an effort for the club, this lot ashould be ashamed to take a weekly wage packet where job title on wage slip states "Professional Footballer"!!!!!!!!!
