Northampton Town boss Stuart Gray will not be keeping Kevin Watson on at Sixfields.
The veteran midfielder played the first 45 minutes of last night's 1-0 friendly defeat to Queens Park Rangers before making way for Abdul Osman.

Summer signing Osman's performance was perhaps enough to convince Gray that what the ex-Gretna man lacks in experience, he makes up for in overall impact on the park.

All of which means the end for Watson at Town, and although Gray
hinted he may still pursue a 'wise old head' in midfield, the priority is once again a forward.

"You bring people in on trial and it's always a case of having a look at them," he said. "But I've told Kevin we won't be taking it any further.

"I just felt at this moment in time I've got other players at this club who can do a similar job and maybe we need to strengthen elsewhere.

"I need someone who can dominate and boss it in there. All credit to Abdul Osman, he came on in the second half and did very well in midfield.

"He gave us a lot of energy and it's given me food for thought."
