Boxing: Ingle fury at David title decision

Manager John Ingle has hit out at referee Sean Messer after he controversially ruled against Northampton's Paul David in his Midlands Area title fight.
Ringside judges unanimously agreed that David had won his super-middleweight encounter with Tyrone Wright at the Nottingham Ice Arena, but Messer surprisingly gave the verdict to the home boxer 97-94.

Ingle was astonished at the decision, but said
it won't stop David taking on Tony Dodson for the English title on June 21 in Sheffield and if the former Kingsthorpe ABC wins that he could be on for a re-match with Wright.

Ingle said: "Everybody had David winning except the ref. He has done this to us before, he is always the same.

"The kid Tyrone couldn't get past Paul's jab. Wright was ruff and ready, but Paul was out-boxing him. Everybody had Paul well up that's why it was so astonishing when the ref gave it the other way around.

"He only caught Paul a couple of times, because he was showboating and had his hands down.

"I think Paul got his back up because he was talking to the kid and he was telling Paul to shut up.

He gave a knock down against Paul, but he quite clearly slipped. There was a shove and Paul tripped over, he told the ref but he just smiled and started counting."
