Robbie Kydd says it was best for him and Northampton Saints that he re-joined Bath.
The Scotland A international signed a one-year deal with at The Rec on Tuesday after negotiating his way out of the final year of his contract with Saints.

Kydd had an injury-plagued two-and-a-half seasons at Saints, but will always be remembered for his superb interception try that won the Heineken Cup quarter-final at San Sebastian against Biarritz in 2007.

The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal at the end of Saints' relegation from the Premiership, but after missing all but eight games with a ruptured Achilles tendon last term the opportunities of first team action have dried up for Kydd.

The emergence of Joe Ansbro and Neil Starling in the centre meant Kydd was no longer part of director of rugby Jim Mallinder's rebuilding plans with new signing Chris Mayor joining an impressive midfield roster of James Downey and Jon Clarke.

Kydd, who it is understood has not been fully involved in Saints' pre-season training, said: "It is best for both parties that this move to Bath has been completed.

"The last six months have been the most testing of my career for me as a rugby player with the injury compounded by off-the-field issues.

"But, on the whole, it was a very enjoyable time at Saints, it's a shame to be leaving. I have got a lot of friends at the club, but Bath is a new challenge now."
