24-hour delay will not affect us in Twenty20 Cup: Lee Daggett

Lee Daggett says the 24-hour delay to the Twenty20 Cup quarter-final will not affect the Steelbacks tonight.

Heavy rain in Northampton ensured last night's clash with Hampshire Hawks was postponed and will now take place tonight.

It will do little to affect their preparations for Twenty20 glory. But it might cause a few problems further down the line with their four-day LV County Championship away to Middlesex starting tomorrow.

"We pretty much knew what was going to happen before we turned up," said Daggett.

"It's been a washout across the country so we kind of had an idea it wouldn't go ahead.

"We got ourselves prepared to get out there whenever.

"It's sporadic cricket but, so long as we get the right result in the end, that's all that matters.

"It might be a problem for the lads going into the Championship game.

"It's going to be a tough one. If we get a full match in tonight then it could get to nine-thirty, ten o'clock before the guys get away from here.

"That could mean arriving down there at around midnight which isn't the ideal preparation for starting a game at Lord's the next day.

"But if we've won tonight it will be an easy thing to do. All the guys will still be getting out of the right side of the bed tomorrow if we're through!"

Daggett also confirmed he is now back to full fitness having recovered from a thumb injury. It was a blow that kept him out of the game against the tourists last weekend. But he is now keen to get his chance to show his value in the Championship as soon as possible.

"It's fine," Daggett said of the injury. "I'm fit and available now."
