In early September 2012, The Voice judge Jessie J went to see popular American singer-songwriter Usher performs in London. Jessie was alleged to have been so impressed with the “Burn” and “OMG” singer, that she took him out to dinner, and rumour has it that the pair are now incredibly keen to work together. Whilst their paths may have recently crossed, these two acts could not be more different.
Born in 1978, in Dallas Texas, as Usher Raymond IV, Usher’s career began over twenty years ago, when at the age of just 13, he was spotted by LaFace Records whilst appearing on television show Star Search. Two years later, the young star released his first single “Call Me a Mack”. Despite a few singles that barely made any kind of mark on the US or UK Charts, it wasn’t until the late nineties, when Usher really made his presence felt. In 1997, still only 19 years old, Usher reached the number one spot in both the US R&B Chart as well as the UK Top 40, and Number 2 in the US Billboard Hot 100 with his single “You Make Me Wanna...”.
In the fifteen years since his breakout single, Usher has had 13 Number One singles, worldwide, and Jessie J will be another in a long line of collaborations for the star, including: Nicki Minaj, Enrique Iglesias, Jessie J’s fellow judge will.i.am, and Beyonce.
Jessie J might not have been around for as long as Usher, in fact she’s 10 years younger, however, in the two years that Jessie has been a part of the music scene, she has most certainly made her presence known, having already collaborated with the likes of James Morrison and David Guetta. She has also written songs for Miley Cyrus and Japanese singer Koda Kumi.
Born in London in 1988, as Jessica Cornish, Jessie J’s popularity from singles such as “Price Tag” and “Domino” have made her a very sought after young lady, as she was drafted in to judge and mentor The Voice, alongside will.i.am, Tom Jones and The Scripts Danny O’Donoghue who had all gained more industry experience, however Jessie had the “current” popularity on her side.
If the excitement of waiting for this amazing collaboration is far too much to handle - and we completely understand - then why not pick up some Jessie J tickets to see her on her upcoming tour which takes place in February and March 2013. You can catch Jessie in Nottingham (two dates), Brighton, Birmingham, Manchester (two dates), Sheffield, Liverpool, Cardiff, Bournemouth, London, Newcastle, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Belfast.
Usher had intended to bring his Euphoria tour to the UK in January and February 2013, with dates planned for London’s O2 Arena, as well as Glasgow, Birmingham, Sheffield and Nottingham. However he made the decision to focus on his children, however, Usher will still be touring in the autumn, so anyone who purchased Usher tickets should be able to transfer them to the new dates that are yet to be announced.
