Leicester Tigers boss Heyneke Meyer says Northampton Saints may lack the strength in depth to survive injuries in key positions this season.
It was a problem that afflicted Saints in their relegation campaign, with a host of injuries decimating their backline, especially at centre where the same pair rarely played all season.

Director of rugby Jim Mallinder has brought in 12 new players in the summer and Meyer acknowledged Saints looked a good side after the East Midlands derby.

He said: "I don't really like to comment too much on Northampton as I'm new to the Premiership.

"The problem with a team like that is the depth. It's a long season and if they pick up a few crucial injuries they will find it tough.

"But I think they played quite good rugby and if they avoid the injuries there's no reason they can't do well. They have a few game breakers in there."

The Tigers boss may question the Saints' strength in depth. Certainly the Tigers have a galaxy of players, but I would question how they pay all their squad yet keep below the wage cap of £4 million!
