Northampton Saints may finally get to know their fixtures for next season's Guinness Premiership return after the Professional Game Board gave the British and Irish Lions a proposed solution to their dispute.
The Lions are scheduled to open next summer's tour to South Africa on May 30, the same day as the Guinness Premiership final takes place.

With the Rugby Football Union requesting the date for the start of the tour be changed, the Lions felt it was their responsibility to resolve the issue.

It topped the agenda when the PGB met for the first time and chairman Martyn Thomas revealed they now waiting for a response from the Lions.

"A key item on the agenda was the issue of the Guinness Premiership fixture list and the Lions tour," he said.

"The PGB has put together a proposal for the Lions and we hope to receive their views on it in due course."

The PGB is responsible for the elite game in England and its formation arose from new eight-year agreement between the RFU and Premier Rugby, which came into effect on Tuesday.
