A celebration was held when the district’s job club helped its 300th person.

After semi-retiring and moving from Milton Keynes to Towcester, Mike Parslow wanted to find some part-time work.

He joined the job club as its 300th member, and soon found a job with the South Northants Volunteer Bureau (SNVB) driving the mobile unit for Village Networks – a lottery-funded project that takes advice and support services out into the community.

The SNC Job Club is a weekly workshop giving free and confidential advice on a wide range of topics to help people into work, training or education.

Cllr Stephen Clarke, portfolio holder for economic development, presented a gift and certificate to Mr Parslow, and said: “SNC is committed to helping those who are looking for a new start or to refresh their skills and I am delighted to see our 300th member take on a new role with SNVB. Whether it is helping young people to find their first job or guiding someone like Mr Parslow into a new role using his transferable skills – this is what our job club is all about.”

Mr Parslow said: “The SNC Job Club is very welcoming and they have a genuine interest in helping you find the right employment. You walk through the door to friendly, smiling people where you’re immediately met with remarkable professionalism.

“Within days I was referred to a vacancy they thought would suit and fortunately I now have the perfect job that I love and couldn’t be happier.”

Sessions alternate between Towcester and Brackley every Tuesday between 11.30am and 1.30pm. For details, go to www.southnorthants.gov.uk/
