Bowls: County ladies draw their opener

The County ladies opened their season with the traditional president versus immediate past-president match at Abington.
President Bev Manning (Kislingbury) and her immediate predecesor Margaret Ruff led the two sides as the game finished in 127-127 draw.
Rink one (skips only, president's team first): W Walker 25, E Winters 12. Rink two: J Bradley 22, J Bryan 11. Rink
three: S Tansley 20, P Symonds 25. Rink four: B Manning 15, J Frisby 25. Rink five: C Barlow 12, R Bell 18. Rink six: B Bishop 13, I Cross 20. Rink seven: B Haseldine 20, J Pownall-Davies 16.

The ladies team have been selected for Northants opening Mid-England Championship match against Cambridgeshire at Newmarket on Thursday (1.30pm start).

Coach pick-up points will be Billing Road, Northampton (10.30am), Kettering Athletic (11am) and Thrapston (11.20am).

Rink one: M Watts (Desborough), B Oliver, B Manning (both Kislingbury), B Bishop (Daventry). Rink two: A Dring (Swanspool), M Wiggins (Corby Forest), M Cave (Rushden), J Bradley (Daventry). Rink three: E West, A Lissack, A Height (all Rushden), M McGillivray (Desborough). Rink four: M Forrester, S Bagshaw (both Kettering Lodge), P Gayton (Swanspool), S Tansley (Kingsthorpe). Rink five: D Bedford, B Haseldine (both Finedon), J Frisby (Wellingborough), W Walker (Corby Forest). Rink six: Y McKee, H Sharpe (both Kingsthorpe), P Starsmore (Kettering Lodge), P Lewis (Rushden).

Travelling reserves: H Lack (Burton Latimer), H Jones (Wellingborough), J Swift (Abbey Park).

The ladies will travel to Newmarket hoping for an improvement in form from their friendly with Berkshire at Woodley Park which the home side won 142-78.

Stuart Letts comfortably beat Ian Daverson in the first round of the south area County Fours.
West End's Letts won 22-12.Fellow West End man Colin Manton beat Express's Roy Rigby 27-14.
