The William Parker School pupil took the title ahead of Northampton School for Boys' Fraser Ryan.

Bishop Stopford student Sam Baker had led the way until the final event, where the 800m saw Melotti take control.

In the corresponding girls event Guilsborough School filled the top two positions as Charlotte Davies led all the way to finish ahead of Zena Francis (1,904) with Campion's Lauren Parslow third on 1,881.

Davies registered a winning points total of 2,219 thanks to a solid performance which saw her clock 12.1 in the 75m hurdles, clear 1.32m in the high jump, putt 7.85m in the shot, long jump 4.32m and record 3.01.3 over 800m.

Another convincing winner was Mereway's Themba Luhana who scored 2,683 in the inter boys age group.

He opened with a long jump of 6.15m before throwing 20.51m in the discus, clocking a slick 13.3 over the 100m hurdles, clearing 1.63m in the high jump and then registering 5.21.7 over 1500m.

Latimer's Tom Berry, whose best event was his 14.4 clocking over the hurdles, amassed 2,540 points to take the silver well ahead of bronze medalist Chris Franklin (William Parker).

Brooke Weston's Jack McShane easily won the senior title with 2,476 points ahead of the Northampton School for Boys pair of Tom Clarke (1,866) and Matthaus Marriott (1,743). His best performances came when he recorded 15.6 in the 110m hurdles and threw 35.65m in the discus.

Charlotte Bowling was in top form when she won the inter girls title.

She got her campaign off to a solid start when she clocked 12.2 over the 80m hurdles to be placed second to Campion's Charlotte Burrows (12.0).

In the next discipline she maintained second spot with a clearance of 1.47m in the high jump when just edging ahead of Burrows (1.44m) as her Prince William school colleague Daniella Hankins took the lead with a superb clearance of 1.65m.

Hankins kept the lead after her long jump of 4.89m. But Bowling narrowed the gap with an excellent leap of 5.19m.

In the penultimate event – the javelin – Bowling took the lead for the first time with a throw of 23.09m to hold off Burrows (28.14m) with Hankins slipping to third.

A time of 2.41.1 was good enough for Bowling to lift the crown with a points total of 2876 with Burrows (2.44.7) just holding off Hankins (2.41.7) to take the silver by 25 points.

Wootton Road Runners equalled their best performance in the East Midlands Grand Prix in the Bedford 6 last week.

The club won the male, male veteran and female veteran team prizes, while the female team was a close second to Rugby & Northampton.

The men's team have now won all three races in the series as they defend the crown they won last year for the first time.

Leading the team and continuing his excellent recent form with a strong third place, was Mike Aldridge in 31mins 26secs.

Aldridge was supported by top Wootton veteran Steve Poole, who finished a brilliant sixth in 32mins 58secs.

The other male scorers were Craig Mattocks, an excellent eighth place in 33mins 24secs and the ever-consistent Richard Lack, 17th in 34mins 53secs.

Joining Poole in the winning veteran male team were, Guy Glennon, with another personal best performance of 35mins 26secs, Richard Fowler 35mins 59secs and Dave Parkins recovering from his recent half marathon effort, with a time of 36mins 43secs.

There were many other good runs with David Lazenby (35.50), Chris Lazenby (35.51) and Charles Howard (36.09) continuing their excellent recent form.

First Wootton lady was Kirsty Whigham, making her series debut for the year, with a fine third-place finish in 36mins 19secs.

Next up, with another personal best run, was Fran Malin in 40mins 2secs with the veteran team completed by Sarah Wooley in 48mins 28secs.
