This year's Furzton Festival in aid of Willen Hospice broke all previous records for the event.
The Frank Swan Memorial Open match on Bank Holiday Monday was won by Terry Tapp with 104-9-0 of bream – a new MKAA five-hour match record – ahead of Eddie Ford's 98-1-0 and followed by Geoff Ringer on 63-1-0, Tony Hobbs 47-4-0 and Pete Patton on 43-15-0.
Almost 80 competitors caught around 800lb of bream between them.
But more importantly the five-day series of matches raised £2,137 for the hospice...a new record for the event and almost twice last year's total!
And there's more cash to come as tickets are still being sold for an associated prize draw – the winners of which will get to go fishing with angling stars Mark Pollard, Steve Ringer, Ian Welch, Tim Hodges, Steve Spurgeon and Chris Rose... who are all giving their free time in aid of the hospice.
The 44-hour carp match, in which pairs of anglers fished for the biggest fish rather than the most, was won by Mark Crompton and Anthony Morris with a 17-14-0 fish.
Simon Hopkins and Sam Caton were second with a 16-14-0 and Dean Jasper and Dave Lovegrove third as 26 entrants caught 38 fish on a slow weekend.
Dave Edgoose won the match for the disabled with 14-12-0 ahead of George Moore 11-7-0 and Dennis Sambridge 9-14-0 as 30 entrants raised more than £400 between them.
The top weight in the youth event was George Hale's 8-13-0 – beating Josh Balodis by just half an ounce. Tom Morettie was third with 5-8-0.
The Ken Ball Memorial Veterans' open which launched the festival had been won by Mike Kelly 34-0-0 ahead of Terry Lancaster 30-10-0, Alan Ford 29-7-8 and England manager Dick Clegg on 29-4-0.
Organiser Bob Final is already working on next year's event.
The Loco boys were at the popular CJ's fishery near Market Harborough this week.
The match, which saw somebrilliant results, was won by Paul Leahy, who won despite sitting next to one of the team big guns Dave Walker, who was left behind in second place.
The lowest weight recorded for the match was 31-8-0.
Leahy's weight of 97-8-0 was too much for Walker (85-12-0), while David Smith (68-4-0) was third.
SOME of the anglers from the Far Cotton WMC shrugged off a car accident on their way to their match at Barby to record some decent weights.
Despite injuries sustained, the lads went on to continue with the
booked match and fished for the Chatfield Cup.
Although the results weren't exceptional, all credit to the lads for carrying on after such a traumatic start.
The winner of the match was Marcus Annable (53-6-0), with Tony Pickering (34-0-0) second and Sibbo (32-3-0).
Filling the frame in fourth was Kelvin McIlhinney (31-4-0).
The next points match will be fished at Canons Ashby top lake.
White Hart Flore held a knock-up match at the Barby Banks fishery.
The results weren't brilliant, but the match was won by Mark Griffiths who won by more than 20lbs.
Griffiths' winning weight was 55-4-0, with Dave Chapman (35-0-0) second, John Berry (34-4-0) and Chris Camplin (33-8-0) third.
The next match is a club fixture at Spring Pools, and all places are taken.
Pete Lovell scored two wins in the four matches held at the Castle Ashby Fishery.
The matches at Ashby seem to have fared a lot better than most, with the weights throughout the four matches seeming to remain consistent.
Lovell kicked things off with a win on the Brickyard Lake last Wednesday, landing a catch of 67-2-0.
That was too much for fellow Castle Ashby Youth anglers Dougie Scott (38-6-0) and Mick Hewlett (29-4-0).
Lovell was also a winner on the Bank Holiday Monday match on the Grendon Lake, and again it was an all-CAY affair in the top three.
Lovell won with a net of 96-8-0 with Bob Reed (82-6-0) second and Gareth Duce (24-0-0) third.
In the other matches, CAA's Chris Prigmore was a winner on the brickyard on Saturday with a catch of 60-8-0.
Second was Joe Roberts (42-6-0) of Camazan Starlets with Dickie Rogers (40-8-0) of CAY third.
CAY's Keith Garrett was the winner on the Grendon lake on Sunday thanks to a haul of 49-12-0.
