The votes are in and we can announce the winner of the Chronicle and Echo Gym of the Year competition.

The winner is Curves on the Moulton Park Business Centre in Northampton.

The women-only gym is run by sisters Orla Walsh and Claire Fitzpatrick. They took over the business in August last year and have had a warm welcome from members and were delighted with the support they gave to help them win the award.

Orla said: “We offer something different to what bigger gyms offer. It takes 30 minutes to do a workout and people can fit it into their day and that half hour goes quick.

Orla said that members have liked the changes they have made since taking over including new equipment and longer opening hours.

She said: “A lot of people like the new equipment and the new opening hours. We’re open all day.”

And she is grateful to all those who voted for Curves in the competition. She said: “I know every single member of this gym. Thanks to all the members for their support since we took over. The members are so lovely.”

The competition began in January when we asked readers to vote for who they thought should be given the award for the best gym in the area.

Thanks to the strength of this year’s entrants we have had hundreds of votes registered for the gyms that featured in the top 10.

Second place went to Trilogy Health & Fitness at Danes Camp Leisure Centre and third place went to Pink Ladies at Cranbrook Road in Kingsthorpe.
