Fire chiefs are urging New Year’s Eve revellers in Northamptonshire to take care ahead of the latest strikes by firefighters.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) is to go on strike tonight (New Year’s Eve) and on Friday over a row with the Government over pensions and the retirement age for firefighters.
The New Year’s Eve action is due to start at 6.30pm and continue until 12.30am on New Year’s Day.
Fire experts have said residents should take extra care in the kitchen, check electrics and maintain appliances, cables and plugs.
Smokers have been urged to make sure they extinguish their cigarettes.
It will be the eighth strike by the FBU since September in a bitter dispute over pensions and the retirement age.
