Volunteers pitch in to spruce up park

COMMUNITY-SPIRITED volunteers (left) have given up their free time to improve the appearance of their neighbourhood park.

The Friends of Eastfield Park organised a two-day clean-up to remove litter, weeds and undergrowth to make the area more attractive for visitors.

It was the third such operation to take place at the park and organiser Linda Martin, of the Eastfield and Headlands Neighbourhood Partnership, said it was the most successful yet.

She said: "About 20 people helped out over the two days and we got a lot of work done.

"It was all part of a wider plan to try to regenerate the park and make it more accessible for visitors and get more facilities and activities going on."

A day of Easter activities for the family is being held at the park tomorrow, including an Easter trail, scavenger hunt and egg-and-spoon races.

The fun gets under way at the Bullring at 2pm and all proceeds will go to the Cynthia Spencer Hospice.
