A rare albino squirrel has been captured on video scampering around a wooded area in Northampton.

Judith Barnard was walking in the Berrywood area in St Crispin, near Camelot Way, at about 4pm when she spotted the squirrel.

Ms Barnard, who was out taking pictures of butterflies for a conservation trust, managed to a get a picture of the squirrel and a short video.

Albino squirrels are extremely rare and their white colour is due to gene mutations that affect the production of pigmentation.

There are believed to be fewer than 100 albino squirrels in the UK.

Ms Barnard said: “At first I thought it was a cat with white fur but then I realised it was a squirrel.
