A wild weekend of weather in Northamptonshire was topped off by a tornado on Sunday night.

Eyewitnesses in Towcester caught a glimpse of the dark funnel cloud forming at about 6pm last night (Sunday, June 12).

Others managed to grab snaps of the mini-tornado in full flow near the A43/A5 roundabout, by the Tesco superstore.

Some onlookers reported garden equipment being blown over as the swirling wind picked up.

Mollie Gibson captured the mini-tornado forming over her house in Marlow Road, Towcester.

The 20-year-old said: “It was quite scary, especially towards the end of the video.

“You can hear me saying ‘oh my God’ over and over.

“It started coming closer towards us.”

Ms Gibson, who works on the reception at a nearby doctors’ surgery, said neighbours reported items in the garden being blown over.

So far there have been no reports of serious damage.

The last time a tornado was reported in the Northampton area, it ripped tiles and bricks off houses and destroyed a number of garden sheds in the Duston area.
