David Brickwood, aged 74, died in Northampton General Hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning after he was violently assaulted in his home in Lindsay Avenue, Abington.

In the video, Gary Brickwood said: “We are devastated and don’t know how anybody could do this to him.

“It is a coward who has done this. How could you attack an elderly man?

“He did not have a bad bone in his body. He would do anything for anyone. He was loved by so many people.”

In a direct plea to the person or people responsible for his father’s death, Gary said: “To the people who have done this. You know what you did.

“You must have a father or brother or mother or sister. How would you like it if this was your dad? Do the right thing, tell the police who did it.”

The brother said they had been overwhelmed by the support of the local community and said it had helped them cope with their grief.

Gary Brickwood said: “This is such a major loss for everyone. This is a life sentence for us. My dad never deserved this.

“The number of flowers outside the house shows how much love and respect there was for him.”
