The victim of an alleged murder suffered stab wounds before a fire was started at his Northampton house, a court has heard.

Karl Pound, aged 50, and Mary Cash, aged 38, were due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court today (Tuesday) after they were both charged with murder and arson with intention to endanger life.

The court heard that Robert Chester’s body was found in his home in Rothersthorpe Road on October 8.

James Robottom, prosecuting, said the alleged murder victim had received a number of stab wounds. The home was severely damaged by fire.

Cash, who was wearing a navy blue sweatshirt, sat in the dock and spoke only to confirm her name.

Pound was due to appear via video link from HMP Woodhill but there was a technical issue.

Judge Rupert Mayo asked for his barrister to pass on the relevant information from the hearing.

The defendants are due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court for the plea and case management hearing on December 18.

A trial date has been set for March 2016.
