Up close and personal with Duston Players

There is something different about Duston Players' latest production – as this time they won't be performing on the stage.

To bring a sense of intimacy to their evening of short comic and dramatic plays, the group will be acting on the same level as their audience, and much closer than usual – hence the title, Up Close & Personal.

The evening starts with the first part of Jo Emery's Little Lil, a funny and moving monologue about a young girl's problems with school drama.

Geralyn Horton's Deus Ex Machina features a struggling playwright who, after calling on divine assistance, is surprised to receive the personal attentions of Greek god Dionysius and ancient author Euripides. The second part of Little Lil closes the first half of the show.

After the interval two pieces written by the group's own Trevor Smith form the second half. In The Book Review the presenter of a TV arts programme brings new meaning to digression; and in A Necessary Death, friends and family try to comfort newly widowed mum-to-be Helen at her husband's funeral, exposing some raw family tensions and unexpected revelations.

The four plays are on at Duston Community Centre at 7.45pm tonight and tomorrow.

Tickets cost 7 for adults and 6 for concessions on 01604 587860 or from the centre.
