The University of Northampton has released designs of the student accommodation proposed for the new Waterside Campus in the town centre.
The university is due to move to a site off Bedford Road, near the River Nene, in September 2018.
Planning permission has already been received for a footbridge crossing from Becket’s Park, a vehicle bridge which will cross the River Nene from the Bedford Road onto the campus as well as the designs for the academic and sport buildings.
The university has now drawn up designs for the student accommodation, which will consist of a mixture of four storey shared townhouses and five storey cluster flat accommodation featuring enclosed landscaped courtyards.
The proposed designs aim to draw upon the industrial heritage of the site including the existing Grade Two listed Engine Shed to the south of the campus.
The student residences will be located immediately next to the new academic buildings and will incorporate a variety of additional facilities including a health centre, multi-faith chaplaincy, convenience store, bank and a hotel school.
These community facilities within the development are part of the university’s plans to create an open campus, providing facilities for the student population and wider community, close to the town centre.
The plans are available to view online at www.northampton.ac.uk/waterside until July 31 for local residents to view and comment on. People can share their feedback and views by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling Northampton 892289.
