Two schools in Corby have been forced to close today (Wednesday) after severe flooding hit Northamptonshire.

Hazel Leys Academy in Gainsborough Road closed this morning after flooding hit an access road.

A statement on their website read: “Unfortunately, school is closed today March 9 due to the flooded access road.

“Thank you for your prompt response to collecting your children and getting them off site safely.”

Exeter School in Brayford Avenue has closed Key Stage 2 after its building flooded, with police helping to evacuate pupils.

Parents have been urged to collect their children from the main reception.

Police have also urged people to be vigilant after the river running through Croyland Gardens in Wellingborough burst its banks.

Video from Wellingborough’s Rural team shows the fast-flowing water far above its normal level and onto the pathway that crosses it.
