This year marks an impressive four years in a row that Delapre Park has been given the award, with Abington Park racking up its third year in a row.

Councillor Alan Bottwood, cabinet member for environment, said the recognition was testament to the “hard work, care and attention” put of park rangers, the ‘Friends of Abington Park’ and ‘Friends of Delapre Abbey’ groups.

He added: “The public also have a huge part to play in the upkeep and cleanliness of the parks and I’d like to thank those that respect these spaces and who take the time to clear up after themselves when visiting them.

“We are delighted to be able to fly the flags for yet another year and will do so with pride and a great sense of satisfaction.”

The Green Flag Award recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country.

The announcement also comes at a time where Northampton is participating in Love Parks Week, a national celebration of parks and green spaces across the UK and Ireland.
