Traveller caravans still in Northampton after ignoring direction to leave notice

A group of French travellers are to be served with a court order after they refused to move from an area of public land in Northampton.

The people in the 19-caravan encampment, which is just off Gladstone Road, in Kings Heath, were issued with a direction to leave notice on Tuesday.

That was ignored so the Northamptonshire County Council will now apply for a summons at Northampton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday).

If the travellers ignore that order, they could be evicted on Friday.

The travellers, who are understood to be from France, arrived overnight on Sunday and the council believes them to be the same group who were at a football club car park near Sixfields last week.
