Three motorists were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a crackdown in Northampton town centre on Saturday night.

A total of 181 drivers were breath tested. Four people were also reported for other traffic offences.

Pc Dave Lee posted details of the operation on his Twitter feed, @Northants_RPU. Drivers were pulled over in St Peter’s Way.

The first driver arrested blew 51mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs. Another driver blew 56mcgs while another driver failed to provide a breath test and was kept in custody overnight.

The operation used the hashtag #DrinkDriveTweetLive.

A specials inspector for the Tactial Roads Policing Unit in Northamptonshire tweeted: “Good night last night. Thank you to all the officers who attended and everyone’s interactions on Twitter as part of #DrinkDriveTweetLive”
