A 19-year-old who drowned in rough seas off the coast of Thailand is believed to have been from Northamptonshire.

Yesterday the Foreign Office confirmed a British teenager holidaying in South East Asian country had died after getting into difficulty off the coast of Thai island Ko Chang.

It is understood the 19-year-old woman had been swimming in waters by the White Sand beach resort.

The teen’s body has reportedly been sent to the British Embassy in Bangkok for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

The victim has been named locally as a Northamptonshire woman, who is believed to have been holidaying with friends at the time.

However, the Chronicle & Echo has chosen not to name the victim as the body is yet to be formally identified.
