The charge follows the death of Stanley Harrison, also aged 17, at Coventry’s University Hospital on Sunday following an incident on the Lang Farm estate at around 3am on Saturday.

The defendant, who cannot be named because of his age, appeared for a bail hearing at Northampton Crown Court today (Wednesday) and was remanded at the youth detention centre.

He spoke only to confirm his name and wore a grey sweater. Members of his family were in attendance.

He will appear again at Northampton Crown Court in October.

After the hearing, Detective Inspector Louise Hemingway, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are working closely with the community of Daventry and are seeking their assistance. If they have any information they believe will be relevant, we would ask them to please come forward and talk to us. They can report anything confidentionally to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
