A planning application has been submitted by supermarket chain Aldi to demolish the former Chronicle & Echo offices in Northampton.
The newspaper’s former offices in Upper Mounts has been vacant since September last year when staff moved to a new premises in Victoria Street.
Aldi has made an application to Northampton Borough Council for the building to be demolished on April 14.
A spokesman for Johnston Press said: “We are close to concluding a sale of the former Northampton Chronicle & Echo building .
“We understand a planning application has been made and that the proposed owners intend to demolish the building. We are not aware of any plans for the site beyond demolition.”
Aldi have declined to comment on the planning application.
