The story of the Battle of Northampton has been told in a new book being launched later this month.

The book The Battle of Northampton will be launched at Northampton Museum & Art Gallery on Saturday, December 19, when author Mike Ingram will be signing copies from 2-4pm.

It features a foreword by Earl Spencer and is illustrated by renowned historical illustrator Matthew Ryan.

Mike Ingram said: “For the first time, this is the full story of the Battle of Northampton which took place during the turbulent period now known as the Wars of the Roses.

“It was the first and only time that a fortified camp was assaulted and was the last time protracted negotiations took place before a battle. As well as the battle itself, the book looks at Northamptonshire’s medieval history and its involvement in the Wars of the Roses.”

Councillor Brandon Eldred, cabinet member for community engagement, said: “We are delighted to host the launch of this fascinating book which expertly documents Northampton’s past and acknowledges the town’s importance as a centre of power in Medieval England.”

Copies of The Battle of Northampton will be available to buy from Northampton Museum & Art Gallery for £9.99.
