A ‘Love Your Market’ Day was held in the Market Square in Northampton to try to encourage people in the town to support their local traders.
The town joined more than 700 markets across the country on Saturday by taking part in the Love Your Local Market campaign.
The event included a number of activities such as stilt walking bugs, balloon art and comedy waiters.
There was also a chance for new traders to take advantage of one of the free pitches available on the day.
Started in 2012 amidst fears around the sustainability of our nation’s high streets, Love Your Local Market participants have staged more than 4,000 events. Graham Wilson OBE, chief executive of the National Association of British Market Authorities, said: “Love Your Local Market is the biggest market event in a generation. It gives people the chance of a new career and demonstrates how important the market is to the local community.”
