Workers from a Northampton shoe factory were invited to watch a preview performance of the West End musical Kinky Boots.

Staff at Trickers got a sneak peek of the show, which is based on the true story of how struggling shoe factory WJ Brooks Ltd in Earls Barton transformed its fortunes by selling kinky boots.

A spokeswoman for the show, which opens at London’s Adelphi Theatre in London, said it was a great chance to mark the show’s link with Northamptonshire.

“Not only did they see the show, but the staff of Trickers also had the opportunity to have their photograph taken with Cyndi Lauper and the cast on the stage of the Adelphi,” she said.

“The show is inspired by the true events of struggling shoe factory in Northampton and how the owner turned its fortunes around with the unlikely but spectacular help from Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos. “The show is a musical celebration about the friendships we discover, and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind.

“With a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (*La Cage Aux Folles*), and songs by Grammy® and Tony® winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, this joyous musical celebration is about the friendships we discover, and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind,” she added.
