Deco Theatre Panto star Karl James Wilson is keeping a closer eye than ever on the new series of ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ – one of his former Hollyoaks co-stars is in the jungle, and he is keen to track her progress.
Jorgie Porter – who left Hollyoaks earlier this year – is in this year’s cast of the popular ITV show, along with former boxer Chris Eubanks, Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley, and ex-England footballer Kieron Dyer
And Karl, who will be playing The Beast in ‘Beauty And The Beast’ at The Deco between December 11 and 29, is already an avid viewer.
He said: “Jorgie is lovely, and shows like this are always much more fun when you actually know someone who’s taking part – I’m sure, because I know her as a friend, there’ll be times when I laugh, and times when I cringe for her as she attempts some of those hideous challenges. I’ll have a good idea what she’ll be thinking!
“But I do think she’ll do ok – she’s got a great personality, and I’m confident she’ll be popular with the viewers.
“Jorgie joined Hollyoaks as my character was preparing to bow out, so we didn’t actually film any scenes together, but we appeared in the same episodes, got to know each other well, and keep in touch, so I’ll be looking forward to hearing all about the Jungle experience once she’s back home.”
Karl, meanwhile, is busy preparing for the opening night of ‘Beauty And The Beast’ on December 11, with full time rehearsals underway in a couple of weeks, ahead of the opening night.
“Preparations are going really well, and I’m just so looking forward to being in Panto this Christmas,” he said. “Wherever we’ve gone around Northampton to promote the show, people have been so lovely and enthusiastic about The Deco Theatre, and I’m hearing ticket sales are going great guns, so it’s all very exciting.
“I’m looking forward to working with a great cast – I’m not just saying this, but they’re a great crew to work with, all very lively and really good fun, and I have no doubt that come December 11 we’ll put on a great show for the people of Northampton.
“Not only that, the team behind the scenes are all incredibly switched on and professional, so it all points to a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait.”
Karl is a big sports fan, whose hobbies include keeping himself fit and following his favourite football team, Tottenham Hotspur. “I’m a London boy and have always supported Spurs.
“But I have started looking out for Northampton’s results since I signed up for the Panto, and I’m delighted they’re doing well in League Two, and that despite all the problems off the pitch I keep reading about. I hope everything works out for the club.
“I’m also a big rugby union fan too, so I couldn’t be in a better place to go and take in a game of rugby if I get time - the Saints are a big club, and I keep hearing what a great set up it is there, so it would be great to
have the opportunity to see them play.”
