Patients, visitors and staff at NGH will soon be able to buy fresh fruit and vegetables without leaving the site.

For the next three months the retro-striped market stall will be outside the South Entrance of Northampton General Hospital from 7.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, selling seasonal produce at reasonable prices.

The initiative, part of a pilot partnership with Healthy Options Ltd, was organised and launched by facilities director Charles Abolins to promote the welfare of everyone who uses the site.

He said: “We tell our patients about the need to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day to stay healthy, but I want NGH staff to be setting an example too.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for our hospital staff, and the local community to lead healthy lives and make good food choices, be it for a snack or as part of their weekly shop.”
