An investigation has been launched after two men allegedly received stabbing injuries on The Racecourse in Northampton last night.
Eyewitnesses described how two men were seen ‘staggering’ and bleeding heavily near the Bat & Wickets pub in nearby Louise Road, at around 7.30pm.
One, believed to be a 19-year-old Albanian man, was understood to have suffered injuries to his chest, arm and shoulder after he claimed a man had stabbed him several times. He was later airlifted to University Hospital Coventry.
The second man, who also claimed to have been stabbed, was said to have had a slash wound.
Police confirmed the men were currently being treated in hospital but their injuries were not life-threatening.
Landlady at the Bat and Wickets pub Amy Godley, 27, was putting her 8-month-old baby to bed when she heard a commotion.
She said: “This guy had literally fallen into the arms of one of our customers; he was bleeding very badly.
“When I came downstairs there were a few people around him and they told me he had been stabbed.
“I put two tea towels round his wounds and waited for the police to turn up.
“I kept trying to get him to keep his arm up to stop the bleeding, but he was struggling.
“The men said they were attacked on The Racecourse.
“I kept asking the guy, who was worse off, what exactly happened and he said ‘a man stabbed me, a man stabbed me’.”
Miss Godley said the men referred to each other as ‘cousins’.
Northants Police revealed a third male was arrested and was in custody in Northampton this morning.
They confirmed they were not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
