Northampton social housing tenants looking to swap their homes in mutual exchange deals took part in a novel new way to meet potential suitors at the Guildhall this week.
Council-owned Northampton Partnership Homes (NPH) invited more than 300 tenants to its first "Home Swap speed dating” event on Thursday night.
The event allowed “daters” to meet and exchange contact details with other tenants who may have the home they are looking for.
Participants brought a card containing details of their current home as well as details of their "perfect match" for the property they want to move to.
Head of rehousing and support at NPH, Nicky McKenzie, said: “We’re aware that there is huge demand for social housing in Northampton.
"This idea is quirky and fun and encourages tenants interested in swapping their homes to meet face-to-face and hear about available homes for exchange.
“This particular event was a pilot for us, and we’ll be taking the idea forward for future home swapping events."
NPH wants others interested in swapping their current homes to get in touch with the organisation, which managed Northampton Borough Council's housing stock.
Mrs McKenzie said: "We can help with the whole process from considering a move to the exchange day."
An NPH spokesman said the event was considered a "success" and similar speed dating nights are likely to follow.
