Northamptonshire Police has generated an “unanticipated” surplus from money generated from speed awareness courses in the past year.

In a budget report presented at a recent Police and Crime panel meeting, it states that the Safer Roads Team reserves fund stand at £420,000.

The report also reveals that the force is saving almost £13,000 a week after installing a new fuel-efficient driving system in police cars.

The Telematics system, which was installed 15 weeks ago, records how a vehicle is being driven and displays a red, amber or green light on the police car’s dashboard.
